Plank: Trump Is An 'Asset'
Plank said during an interview with CNBC that President Donald Trump is a "real asset" for American companies. This didn't bode well for many Americans, as his comments resulted in #BoycottUnderArmour trending on Twitter Inc TWTR.
The executive's comments even forced the company to release a statement to limit the backlash.
"We engage in policy, not politics," the statement read. "We believe in advocating for fair trade, an inclusive immigration policy that welcomes the best and the brightest and those seeking opportunity in the great tradition of our country, and tax reform that drives hiring to help create new jobs globally, across America and in Baltimore."
Steph Curry: Trump Is An Asset Minus 'et'
One of Under Armour's most notable brand ambassadors, NBA superstar Steph Curry, said in an interview with The Mercury News that he agrees with Plank's description of the president being an asset — "if you remove the 'et.'"
CNNMoney noted that Curry spent many hours talking with "countless people" at Under Armour and was trying to "understand what was going on and where everybody stood on the issue."
This could prove to be a textbook example of not mixing politics at the workplace. It is possible based on Curry's comments that he would be open to distancing himself from the Under Armour brand.
"If I can say the leadership is not in line with my core values, then there is no amount of money, there is no platform I wouldn't jump off," he added in his interview.
