Van Eck To Roll Out Another Emerging Markets ETF

This year hasn't been the best in terms of investor sentiment toward or alpha generated by emerging markets ETFs, but ETF issuers still seem to have an endless of spigot of new ideas for this asset class. Issuers including Emerging Global Shares, Global X, and IndexIQ have graced investors with ample news about new emerging markets ETFs this year. Don't forget Van Eck, parent company of Market Vectors, the sixth largest U.S. ETF issuer. Fresh off last week's introduction of the Market Vectors Colombia ETF COLX, Van Eck has filed plans to introduce the Market Vectors GDP Emerging Markets Small-Cap Equity ETF, which will track the Market Vectors GDP - Emerging Markets Small-Cap Equity Index. Essentially, this new ETF will weigh its components based on GDP, which means it might be reasonable to assume that it will offer a fair amount of exposure to the BRIC nations. Small-cap emerging markets offerings have continued to spring up in the past year, though more so on the country-specific level. In terms of multi-country small-cap EM ETFs, the new Market Vectors offering could compete with ETFs such as the SPDR S&P Emerging Markets Small Cap ETF EWX and the WisdomTree Emerging Markets SmallCap Dividend ETF DGS. Market Vectors now issues 30 ETFs with over $20 billion in assets under management.
