Trading The Shareholder Meetings Today (DIS, SBUX, HPQ, CIEN)

There is a slew of shareholder meetings today, which could be catalysts for upward moves in the names, if management is able to convey to shareholders their visions for growth going forward. At 12:00, Walt Disney DIS will be holding its annual shareholder meeting. At last check, shares of Disney were down 26 cents to $41.18, a loss of 0.6%. At 1:00, Starbucks Corp. SBUX will be holding its meeting. Shares of Starbucks are higher today, bucking the trend of the market, gaining 21 cents to $35.16, a gain of 0.6%. Hewlett-Packard HPQ will also be holding its shareholders meeting today at 1 p.m. HP has come under much scrutiny with new CEO Leo Apotheker, and his vision in transforming HP from a hardware company to a software company. Shares of HPQ are up 30 cents to $42.04, a gain of 0.7%. Ciena Corp. CIEN is also going to have its annual shareholder meeting at 1 p.m., and investors will be looking to hear what the networking company has to say with regards to its business. Competitors like Finisar FNSR have seen a slowdown in growth in emerging markets, particularly China, so investors will be listening closely. At last check, shares of Ciena were up 45 cents to $22.77, a gain of over 2% today.
