Ireland May Merge Two Banks (AIB)

According to Bloomberg, Ireland may announced a merger of two of its biggest lenders, in an effort to strengthen them. The Irish government is considering merging EBS Building Society, its fifth-largest lender into Allied Irish Banks Plc AIB, the second-largest. There could be an announcement today on the merger, when the Irish central bank releases its stress tests at 4:30 p.m. in Dublin.
