Naïve Haven?

GINA Gallery of International Naïve Art is the largest institution in the world specializing in Naïve Art, featuring over 100 artists from more than 30 countries worldwide. The gallery stands at the forefront of preserving and promoting the Naïve Art genre since its establishment in 2003 by Dan Chill, a U.S. - born corporate lawyer turned art connoisseur.

Naïve Art is a genre characterized by its departure from academic traditions and institutionalized guidelines. Created primarily by self-taught artists, it reflects a pure, untrained perspective, often resulting in unique compositions, unconventional proportions, and vibrant, unblended colors.

Naïve Art transcends cultural boundaries and historical timelines, offering a universal, hopeful vision of life. Despite often being confronted with challenging living conditions, Naïve artists choose to depict a world filled with positivity and beauty, inspiring viewers to embrace a similarly optimistic outlook.

For Chill, the journey to founding GINA Gallery began decades ago. After making Aliyah to Israel in 1975, Dan's legal career often took him to South and Central America, where he encountered Naïve Art - a genre that captivated him. Over 20 years, he built a remarkable private collection and, in 2003, made the bold decision to leave his legal career behind to establish GINA Gallery in Tel-Aviv.

Troubled Times!

On October 7, 2023, war erupted in Israel, casting a shadow over daily life. Amid the chaos, GINA Gallery faced its own crisis. At 78, Chill had been seeking a successor to lead the gallery into the future. But, as the conflict deepened, and finding someone to take the helm seemed a formidable task, the gallery reluctantly announced its impending closure, leaving artists and patrons stunned.

In an unexpected twist, the announcement sparked an outpouring of support from GINA's clientele and admirers worldwide. "The gallery is too important and cannot be closed down," wrote one patron. Inspired by this wave of protests, a dedicated group of individuals stepped forward to preserve Dan's legacy. This group comprised longtime admirers and devoted clients from diverse fields, including law, investment, high-tech, advertising, marketing, web development, and branded packaging.

As GINA embarks on its next chapter, the new team is blending modern strategies with a deep respect for the gallery's traditions, and is determined to elevate GINA's global reach and accomplishments, while benefiting from Chill's guidance and preserving his legacy.

A Global Showcase of Naïve Art

GINA Gallery brings together stories and cultures from around the world, featuring a roster of world-class naïve artists such as Eduardo Ungar, known for his vibrant scenes of Buenos Aires; Cesare Novi, who captures the enchanting beauty of Tuscany; Jean-Pierre Lorand, celebrated for his idyllic portrayals of Belgian and Mediterranean life; Edivaldo Barbosa de Souza, with his lush depictions of Brazilian forests; and Zoe Sever, whose work highlights Israeli landscapes.

For Chill, seeing GINA's mission endure is the fulfillment of a dream. "GINA has always been more than a gallery. It is a testament to creativity, resilience, and the human spirit."
