Opinion: There is no imminent infectious disease crisis at the border

The Trump administration is reportedly planning to reinstate a pandemic-era border policy known as Title 42, which would permit the swift expulsion of migrants at the border on the grounds that they might spread dangerous infectious disease. This policy prevents migrants from exercising their right to seek asylum.

The reinstatement of Title 42 is not backed by any data. This policy would not stop the spread of infectious disease, and it would risk the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention becoming a partisan institution.
