French MEP Raphaël Glucksmann, belonging to the Socialists and Democrats group, has generated controversy by suggesting that France should demand that the U.S. return the Statue of Liberty. Politico reports that at a party convention, Glucksmann criticized the US for aligning with authoritarian leaders and attacking scientific freedom. “We're going to say to the Americans who have chosen to side with the tyrants… ‘Give us back the Statue of Liberty,'” he said with a grin.
