Major Averages Notch More Gains (SPY, QQQQ)

All of the major averages closed higher on Friday, but the real story of the day was the Dow, which added 73 points to close at 12,391. The widely watched blue-chip index traded in a range between 12,303 and 12,391. The SPDR S&P 500 ETF SPY added 0.21% to close at $134.53. Volume was on the light side with around 128.8 million SPY shares trading hands compared to a 3-month daily average of 138.6 million. The PowerShares QQQ Trust ETF, which tracks the performance of the Nasdaq 100, lost 0.22% to $58.73, although the broader NASDAQ closed marginally higher. The weakness in QQQQ was largely due to Apple AAPL, which lost 2.16% to $350.56.
