ETF Assets Could Double By 2012

After finally surpassing the critical $1 trillion mark in assets under management in late 2010, global exchange traded products assets could top $2 trillion by early 2012, according to a report by BlackRock BLK, the parent company of iShares, the largest U.S. ETF issuer. BlackRock estimates that global exchange traded products had about $1.2 trillion in AUM at the end of last year. Industry analyst Deborah Fuhr is projecting assets could grow by 20%-30% annually. Total assets of ETFs and ETNs should reach $2 trillion in the U.S. in 2013, Barron's reported, citing the BlackRock report.
