Benzinga, a leading news and data provider, will be holding its annual Benzinga Global Fintech Awards, a day of dealmaking, networking, and recognition in the financial technology space, on November 11, 2021.
The event will award Benzinga Listmakers, those top companies part of Benzinga’s Global Fintech Index, for their accomplishments innovating, as well as merging the best of finance and technology.
In recognition of those disruptive innovators creating positive and diverse change within the financial services space, Benzinga chatted with Chan Lo, founder at Chance Trades and Calls or Puts.
Fueling The New Wave: The coronavirus pandemic and new, gamified trading technologies have driven interest in the financial markets in 2020.
In helping this new wave of retail traders develop an edge in the marketplace, Lo founded Chance Trades and Calls or Puts as low-cost resources that provide added insight.
Chance Trades, in the simplest way, is a Discord server packed with education, trading ideas, as well as mentorship opportunities.
Calls or Puts is an unusual options activity feed.
Put together, the platforms democratize access to actionable insights, he said.
“My main goal is to have a community that speaks to each other,” Lo said in a conversation about giving investors a leg up.
“I grew up with a fairly difficult background where I was homeless at one point. I created Chance Trades with a bigger picture in mind — not just about trading.”
The Core Product: In providing investors the opportunity to excel and earn their fair share, Lo offers Chance Trades and Calls or Puts as the gateway to premium insights.
For as little as $20, investors can access Lo’s community of investors, as well as watchlists, trade ideas and mentorship.
“We meet up with members, as well as speak in the community and live trade,” Lo said. “This is my way of giving back to the community.”
Additionally, for $50 a month, users can also access real time and historic option order flow, which helps uncover unusual and often significant stock market activity.
“It is a very simple platform that ties into the mission of the company,” Lo said. “The developers did thousands of dollars of work just because they believed in the vision. We even ended up cutting them a check to help pay for college.”
Prospects For Growth: Lo is looking to expand his coverage to hard and alternative assets.
“I think I’ve built something that is more than just a trading community,” he said. “All the money that’s coming in is going back out; we’re doing investment properties.”
Lo told Benzinga there is an immense amount of opportunity outside of the stock market.
Opening up his community to investments in hard assets like real estate has helped diversify and stabilize user returns, he said.
“The thing that amazes me the most is the people working in the community; it’s been really cool to go from zero to 5,300 members. It really means a lot to me just watching people grow, and that’s why I’m trying to expand it even further.”
