U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R- Ga.) bid $100,000 on House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) used chapstick as part of a fundraiser for the GOP’s campaign arm.
The winning bid includes a chance to have dinner with McCarthy, in addition to his used cherry lip balm, according to a report from Politico.
The fundraiser came amid negotiations between Republicans and Democrats regarding the debt ceiling. The U.S. is on track to default on its debt unless the two parties can come to an agreement to raise the debt ceiling.

“I’m honored to be able to donate $100,000 to the [National Republican Congressional Committee] to help Republicans increase our majority in 2024 and defeat the Democrats,” Greene said. “My constituents will be honored to host a visit with Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who we all think is doing a great job.”
Many Republicans seem skeptical of the treasury’s projection that the U.S. could run out of funds and default on its debt as soon as next week. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is reportedly trying to get his colleagues to make Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen testify about the projection.
President Joe Biden and his administration have said that the U.S. will not default on its debt and is confident the two parties will be able to come to a solution.
