Kevin O’Leary, also known as Mr. Wonderful, recently shared a clip from Fox Business on his social media, expressing his views on the competitive dynamics between the United States and China, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) market. O’Leary’s message was clear: “All I want in terms of competing with China is a level playing field. It’s time to give them the stick!”
When asked about his concerns regarding China’s influence in the EV market a decade from now, O’Leary did not mince words.

“I worry about China every single day,” he said, emphasizing the need for a balanced competitive environment. He advocates for the maintenance of tariffs and a strong stance against China to ensure an equitable playing field. “There’s absolutely no reason why we remain the largest economy on earth, we cannot squeeze Chinese heads until we get what we want.”
O’Leary criticized the asymmetrical demands and benefits between the two nations, highlighting the concessions the U.S. makes to accommodate China, such as the rule of law, litigation in U.S. courts and access to financial markets, without receiving reciprocal privileges.
“They ask so much from us … and they don’t give us the same in China. Come on. That makes no sense to me whatsoever,” he said.
O'Leary said the U.S. should apply pressure continuously through policy and economic measures until a fair agreement is reached.
“I am all for squeezing them every single day and keeping the policy tight,” he said.
O’Leary believes that China responds to firmness and that it is time for the U.S. to “give them the stick,” a metaphor for applying stricter measures to ensure fairness and reciprocity in economic and trade relationships.
O’Leary’s comments have sparked a conversation on the strategies the U.S. might employ to address trade imbalances and competition with China, especially in critical sectors like the EV market. His call for a “level playing field” resonates with broader concerns over global trade practices and the future of economic competitiveness between these two global powerhouses.
