The use of CBD-infused tampons to treat menstrual pain has been the subject of study in a recent research paper.

The project, which has already been published, and will also be in the March 2024 edition of the Journal of Endometriosis and Uterine Disorders, suggested that there was a reduction in pain in its participants, thus opening a new horizon in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.

The researchers set out to treat severe menstrual cramps, to reduce pain with fewer side effects than conventional anti-inflammatories. The lead author is Valentina Milanova, a healthcare professional and CEO and founder of Daye, a company that makes CBD-infused tampons.

How Researchers Determined The Effectiveness Of CBD Tampons

The study included 114 participants, ages 18 to 45, who used CBD-infused tampons or regular tampons. Various levels of pain, including vaginal irritation and systemic toxicity, were evaluated throughout three-month.

“The findings indicate the potential of CBD-infused tampons as a promising option for managing menstrual pain,” the researchers concluded, according to High Times. They also suggested that “further research and exploration of this innovative product can contribute to the management of primary dysmenorrhea.”

Specifically, the results of the study indicated that between 37% and 40% of participants experienced improvements in vaginal dryness and general mood or well-being. More than 80% said the product was “satisfactory or pleasant.”

However, although the sample response was positive, the researchers acknowledged that it was a small study, emphasizing the need for more research to fully determine the effectiveness of CBD-infused tampons.
