Elon Musk, who completed the $44-billion purchase of Twitter last week, has directed engineers to start on a Vine relaunch that might be available by year's end, according to Axios.

Vine, a well-known American short-form video hosting service where users could upload looping video clips that lasted six seconds, was acquired by Twitter in October 2012.

Vine's devoted users were disappointed when Twitter shut down the looping video app in 2016 after purchasing it just four years earlier..

After being introduced in 2013, the app quickly became well-known. It was recognized as one of the most important applications by Apple Inc. AAPL and Google GOOGL GOOG, and it had more than 200 million active users worldwide.

Vine shut down in 2016 due to intense competition, a lack of opportunities for revenue and advertising and high employee turnover.

Musk polled his more than 112 million followers on Sunday, asking if Twitter should “bring back vine.”

With 3,970,839 votes, 69.4% users voted yes — while 30.6% said no.

TikTok Competitor?

Mr. Beast, a wildy famous YouTube personality, replied to Musk saying, “If you did that and actually competed with tik tok that’d be hilarious.”

Musk, who is now the Twitter CEO said, “what could we do to make it better than TikTok?”

The rebirth of Vine is only one of several significant adjustments Musk is exploring; he may also raise the cost of Twitter Blue subscriptions and reconsider the verification process for those who have a blue checkmark.
