Ticketmaster announced Thursday that an “insufficient” amount of tickets left for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is leading to the cancellation of Friday’s planned open-to-the-public sale.
Tickets went on sale through various pre-sales this week and due to extraordinary demand, there are no tickets left for the public. Live Nation Entertainment LYV owns and operates Ticketmaster, the site facilitating the sales for Swift’s tour.
Live Nation’s stock traded down more than 3% on Thursday. The site had multiple issues processing ticket requests from the pre-sales, leaving fans frustrated. Lawmakers, including U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, have called Ticketmaster out for taking advantage of customers.
The plan was for tickets to be available to registered fans on Tuesday, Capital One COF cardholders on Wednesday and the general public on Friday. Since so many tickets were bought during the two presale events, Ticketmaster announced that it would cancel Friday’s planned sale.

Swift has not toured in more than four years after a public feud with Scooter Braun, a music executive who bought the rights to most of Swift’s albums. Swift was unable to perform her own music without licensing it from Braun. So, she decided to simply not tour and re-recorded her old music instead, driving the value down of the music that Braun owns.
On top of the fact that Swift has not toured in a long time, she just released her 10th studio album, "Midnights," a little more than a month ago.
The album has been incredibly successful, with Swift becoming the first artist to simultaneously hold all top-10 spots on the Billboard Hot 100. So, it makes sense that demand is off the charts for Swift tickets.
