This story is part of a new series of features on the subject of success, Benzinga Inspire.

77-year old Dolly Parton isn’t spending her golden years lounging in front of the television. In fact, the American country-music superstar, who only retired from touring last year, sleeps between three and five hours per night.

“I’m always, almost always up for good around 3 a.m.,” Parton said during an interview with Marie Claire in 2021 with RuPaul Charles. “I wake up and I thank God for the night and ask him to bless the day and to bring all the right things...all the wrong people out of my life.”

The singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and businesswoman, who rang in 2023 by singing “Wrecking Ball” with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus at Cyrus’ New Years Eve Party, uses the early morning hours to pray, put pen to paper and focus on her business.

Parton says she gets more work done during "that little period of time when the world is calm, energies are down, and I just feel like a farmer.”

“They say the early bird gets the worm," she says. "Well, they also get a lot of good ideas too.”

Street - And Ambulance? - Ready

Parton, who stands at just five feet, must wear heels in order to reach her cabinets, which she doesn't mind.

"I just feel more like me,” Parton said of being in heels. “I have to always stay ready—street ready, I always say. I have to keep my makeup on and keep my hair done. Like, when I’m in L.A. — I’ve told you about it — if it’s going to earthquake, if we get an earthquake, I’m not running out in the street looking like you look now. I have to be ambulance-ready at all times, if I get sick or something.”
