Elon Musk's Twitter Blue Gets Benched By Billionaire LeBron, The NBA's Thriftiest Player

NBA legend Dwyane Wade once called billionaire LeBron James, who boasts a net worth of over $1 billion, "the cheapest guy in the NBA."

Despite earning more from off-the-court endorsement deals and businesses than from his NBA salary, James is known for his frugality. So it's not surprising that the Los Angeles Lakers star, like other high-profile Twitter users, is refusing to pay $8 a month for "verified status" on Elon Musk's social media platform.

James has also refused to pay for data roaming, commercial-free music on Pandora, and other seemingly minor expenses.

In a 2017 interview, James confirmed Wade's assertion that he was the cheapest player in the league, acknowledging that he avoids spending money on things that most people would.

However, James' wealth management strategy does not prevent him from investing in his community through charitable work or expanding his off-the-court revenue streams and businesses. Additionally, he spends over $1 million annually to maintain his physical fitness, which has contributed to his longevity in the NBA.

Although James may be unwilling to pay for a blue checkmark on Twitter, he owns multiple luxury cars and a $36.8 million mansion in Beverly Hills.

It appears that the NBA legend prioritizes investments and endorsements over frivolous spending — a trait that has certainly contributed to his impressive financial standing.

It's worth noting that Twitter rival Meta Platforms Inc. META has also been rolling out a verified subscription plan for both Instagram and Facebook.
