As Trump Faces Obstruction Of Justice Charges, His Prior Unverified Claims Under The Lens

Despite facing an obstruction of justice indictment last week, largely due to alleged mishandling of classified documents, it seems this isn't the first instance of former President Donald Trump's seemingly untruthful claims.

Although not criminal, Trump purportedly misled the public about the level of traffic on his Truth Social platform in April. He stated that his site, owned the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), was recording unprecedented traffic volumes during the month of his last arraignment, which involved 34 felony counts for falsifying business records.

Trump stated on April 29 that Truth Social saw its largest amount of traffic ever, but statistics on website traffic checker SEMRUSH show the social media site registered 16.9 million visits that month.

The number is up from the 14.5 million visits the website received in March, but down from the 17 million visits Truth Social saw in February. The record, for the most amount of traffic on Truth Social took place in January, when the site received 22.7 million visits.

A Look Back At Donald Trump’s False Claim

“April is the biggest month of Traffic on TRUTH SOCIAL, by far,” Trump wrote, adding that the platform "has become one of the most important 'Voices' in the Universe, because it is my Voice.”

Trump’s post follows a long pattern of behavior that has taken aim at the media. The former president has repeatedly accused news outlets of mischaracterizing him and his accomplishments.

While bragging about Truth Social's traffic, Trump griped that “Fake News, most of which is dying, or dead, refuses to report on it, or its relevance.”

The embattled former president ended his post by writing, “WHEN I TRUTH, IT GOES ALL OVER THE PLACE. REMEMBER THAT, AND WATCH!” he wrote.

Because the merger between Digital World Acquisition Corp and TMTG hasn’t yet happened and TMTG hasn't yet been taken public, Trump’s media company isn’t required to report quarterly financials.
