Activision Blizzard Inc.'s ATVI popular first-person shooter game, Call of Duty, recently launched its Season 3 update, which promised to bring a slew of new maps, weapons, modes and features to its multiplayer experience.
Along with these exciting additions, the update also introduced a significant bug causing frustration for many players.
What Happened: Users who have AMD Vega GPUs installed in their system are encountering immediate crashes when trying to launch both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. The error message accompanying the crash reads: "DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error."
Unfortunately, the issue isn't limited to just Vega GPUs. Players who have hardware based on Vega, such as the Radeon VII and integrated GPUs on Ryzen processors, are also facing similar problems.
Since the issue was identified, players have taken to various forums to report their experiences, with one Steam thread garnering over a thousand replies. Eventually, Beenox, the Canadian game development studio responsible for the PC version of Call of Duty, acknowledged the issue on Twitter.
"We're investigating a crash on boot affecting AMD VEGA users on WZ2 and MWII. The team is actively working to get it fixed," the studio wrote.
Why It Matters: Despite the studio's efforts, the issue remains unresolved, leaving players to take drastic measures.
According to PC Gamer, some players have started a petition on change.org demanding a fix or a refund. Others have gone to unusual lengths, such as sending a pizza to Beenox's office with the message "Help Vega Please" written on the box.
