Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle were reportedly followed by photographers following a charity event in New York, according to reports.
The couple’s office released a statement saying that the pursuit almost resulted in multiple crashes which could have involved pedestrians and NYPD officers.
The couple lost the security provided by the British government when they moved to California in 2020 and left the royal family. Instead, the duo pays for their own security.
The two were in New York for a charity event where Markle accepted an award from Ms. Foundation of Women. The foundation is aiming to raise more than $100 million throughout the next year to build women’s collective power in the U.S.
Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, was in the audience to see her daughter accept the award.

Prince Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, died in a car crash as photographers followed her in 1997.
According to Prince Harry and Markle’s office, the pursuit on Wednesday lasted more than two hours. There were about six vehicles with blacked-out windows that followed their car and the incident was called “near catastrophic.”
It’s easy to understand why Prince Harry would be extremely concerned about the pursuit after living through the tragic death of his mother in a similar manner. Prince Harry and Markle have been under heavy press and tabloid scrutiny throughout the last few years.
