Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has announced her upcoming stream on Amazon.com, Inc.’s AMZN Twitch, and Twitter users can’t stop wondering why she isn’t choosing the microblogging site instead.
What Happened: In October 2020, AOC made a splash on Twitch, drawing in over 426,000 viewers during her live stream, making it one of the platform’s most-watched events at the time.
Now, the New York Congresswoman is gearing up for another Twitch appearance, much to the delight of her supporters and fans.
When Is The Stream Scheduled And Who Will Be There
The stream is scheduled for Saturday, July 22, at 7:30 PM (Most likely EDT). While the specifics of the stream have been kept under wraps, the congresswoman has confirmed that she will be streaming alongside Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker and a lineup of “special guests.”
Twitter and Threads, the newly launched social media platform by Meta Platforms Inc.’s META users, are excited about this unexpected yet intriguing announcement.
Although some tweeps are wondering why AOC isn’t doing the streaming on the Elon Musk-led platform.
Why It’s Important: Twitch came under fire in June this year when it implemented strict limitations on streamers’ channel monetization. The changes triggered outrage within the streaming community, with influential figures like Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast, expressing their discontent.
Among the contentious rules were restrictions on the size of logos displayed on-screen and the prohibition of permanently displaying sponsorships.
However, due to the vehement backlash from streamers, Twitch ultimately decided to backtrack on its ad guideline changes and reversed the controversial restrictions.
