Capcom Co., Ltd CCOEY has officially proclaimed the "Resident Evil 2" remake as the best-selling game in the zombie franchise's history.
With cumulative lifetime sales of over 12.6 million copies across console and PC, the sequel-remake has surpassed the previous record-holder, "Resident Evil 7: Biohazard," which sold 12.4 million copies since its release in January 2017.
The company disclosed this achievement along with its financial results for the second quarter of 2023, where updates to the list of Platinum Titles were shared.

These titles represent Capcom's best-selling games, each having surpassed the one million units mark.
In addition to the success of the "Resident Evil 2" remake, which launched in January 2019, Capcom revealed that this year's "Resident Evil 4" remake has achieved sales of 4.9 million copies.
Overall, the Resident Evil series as a whole has sold more than 146 million units worldwide.
The rest of the titles that are part of the top five best-selling Resident Evil games are: "Resident Evil 5" and "Resident Evil 6" both with 8.80 million and "Resident Evil Village" with 8.30 million.
