Today's edition zeroes in on the so-called "Gang of Four" — Walt Disney's DIS Bob Iger, Warner Bros. Discovery's WBD David Zaslav, Netflix's NFLX Ted Sarandos and NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley. The super wealthy CEOs spent the weekend "monitoring" negotiations with guild representatives.
In other words, they weren't there, according to Variety.
Still, there was progress.
- A "best and final" offer was reportedly presented to the Writers Guild of America (WGA) negotiators on Saturday evening.
- The WGA is expected to give a response today.
- Representatives from both sides met in person at the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers headquarters in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles.
- The negotiations, if successful, would end the nearly five-month-long writers strike.
- The WGA has pushed for gains in compensation and benefits, as well as clarity on how generative artificial intelligence will factor into the industry going forward.
While the strike, which began on May 2, may soon end, it remains to be seen whether SAG-AFTRA will resolve its own issues. The "double strike" began on July 14.
