In a recent development, musician Claire Boucher, professionally known as Grimes, has initiated a legal battle against SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk regarding the parenthood of their three offspring.
What Happened: SF Standard reports that on Sept. 29, Boucher lodged a “petition to establish a parental relationship”. This type of petition, generally submitted by unmarried couples, seeks a court judgment to ascertain the legal parents of a child. The actual documents remain undisclosed.
Family lawyer Deborah Dubroff elaborated that such petitions usually accompany demands for custody rights or child support. However, no such claims have been filed in this case to date.
The couple, who never tied the knot, reportedly split in September 2021. They had three children during their time together: X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, and Tau Techno Mechanicus.

Samantha Bley DeJean, the attorney representing Boucher, has not yet issued any comments regarding the lawsuit, as per the report.
Why It Matters: Boucher and Musk’s relationship began in the spring of 2018, as revealed by Musk’s biographer Walter Isaacson. They had their third child, Mechanicus, in 2023, which was disclosed in Isaacson’s biography of Musk.
This legal dispute comes just a year after Musk’s announcement of their third child on X. As stated in a Benzinga article, Musk, who has been divorced three times, has fathered 11 children, including five with his first wife, Justine Wilson.
