If You Invested $1,000 In Berkshire Hathaway Stock When Warren Buffett Appeared In The Entourage Movie, Here's How Much You'd Have Today

Zinger Key Points
  • Warren Buffett doesn't have a ton of acting roles, but made a cameo in a 2015 movie.
  • A look at the role and how Berkshire Hathaway shares have performed since the release date.

Over the years, Warren Buffett has become known as one of the most legendary investors of all time thanks to his acquisitions of many companies, stakes in public companies, while having an eye for value.

Although he's famed for his investment acumen, many are unaware of the Oracle of Omaha's prowess in acting.

What Happened: Buffett was one of many celebrities to make an appearance in the “Entourage” movie, which was released in theaters on May 27, 2015. Investor Mark Cuban also made an appearance in the film.

The film's trailer featured Buffett along with numerous other celebrities. Actor Mark Wahlberg, who was a producer of the original hit series and the movie, said in an interview that Buffett was a big fan of the show.

“Entourage” was a show before it was a movie, with 96 episodes airing on HBO, a unit of Warner Bros. Discovery WBD from 2004 through 2011.

In the movie, Buffett is in a golf cart and appears angry as he crosses paths with the film’s character Ari Gold, played by Jeremy Piven. In an interview with Yahoo Finance, Buffett was asked about portraying anger in the film, a side seldom seen from the renowned investor.

“They had me get in this car. They wanted me to say something I wasn’t going to say,” Buffett said. “If you thought I was angry in what you saw, you would have gotten a whole different impression if they got their way.”

The Berkshire Hathaway Inc (NYSE: BRK-A)(NYSE: BRK-B) CEO said the cameo was a trade-off for the cast of the show doing a cameo for a short video that played at his company’s annual shareholder meeting in 2014.

Investing $1,000 in Berkshire Hathaway Stock:

For those who watched the "Entourage" show or movie and were unfamiliar with Buffett, a quick search would reveal that his company owns several renowned brands and holds significant stakes in public corporations.

Anyone who invested in Berkshire Hathaway shares around the movie's release would have seen returns surpassing the broader market.

A $1,000 investment in Berkshire Hathaway could have purchased 0.0046 A shares. The $1,000 investment would be worth $2,425.37 today, based on a price of $527,255 for Berkshire Hathaway at the time of writing.

The investment would have generated a return of 142.5% over the last eight-plus years.

So while the film wasn’t a blockbuster with a total worldwide gross of $49.3 million, investors who bought Berkshire Hathaway shares may be yelling “Victory” today.

Perhaps Warren Buffett wanted to be an investor's superhero. Yeah. Oh yeah.
