Over the years Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks have collaborated on several World War II cinematic classics, including "Saving Private Ryan," "The Pacific" and "Band of Brothers." A new series from the duo is coming to Apple Inc AAPL owned AppleTV+ thanks to a deal with Hanks.
What Happened: Technology giant Apple has been ramping up its content on its streaming platform through acquisitions and acquiring media rights to sports like Major League Soccer and Major League Baseball.
In January, the streamer will begin showing a World War II limited series from an experienced team of producers on the subject matter.
"Masters of the Air," which stars Austin Butler and Barry Keoghan, has as executive producers Spielberg, Hanks and Gary Goetzman. The three previously worked together on the World War II drama series "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific."
The series will be nine episodes with the first two premiering Jan. 26, 2024, with new episodes added each Friday, according to Variety.
A trailer for the series was released on Thursday, which can be watched below.
The series is an adaptation of the 2007 nonfiction book "Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought The War Against Nazi Germany."
"During World War II, airmen risk their lives with the 100th Bomb Group, a brotherhood forged by courage, loss and triumph," the description reads.
The series follows the men as they conduct "perilous bombing raids" over Nazi Germany during Hitler's Third Reich.
"Some were shot down and captured; some were wounded or killed. And some were lucky enough to make it home. Regardless of individual fate, a toll was exacted on them all."

Why It's Important: In 2022, Hanks and Goetzman signed a multi-year exclusive deal with AppleTV+ via their Playtone company.
"Masters of the Air" follows "Greyhound," which was produced by Goetzman, starred Hanks and was released on AppleTV+.
The content deal will see the duo continue to add new series, documentaries and unscripted projects to Apple after "Masters of the Air."
"Greyhound" and "Finch," two movies starring Hanks, have performed well for Apple. Hanks is a well-liked actor and while he is not in "Masters of the Air," his name being attached and past history with World War II content could make this a highly talked about series.
For Apple, "Masters of the Air" will follow the company's theatrical release of "Killers of the Flower Moon," a high-budget film it released in theaters. That film could make its way on AppleTV+ in December or January.
Apple has had several hit shows and movies and the addition of "Masters of the Air" could continue on past success and give more people a reason to subscribe to the streaming platform.
