Golden Globe Nominations Set Elon Musk's X Abuzz: 'Barbie' And 'The Last of Us' Steal The Spotlight

Golden Globe award nominations instantly became a top trending topic on Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) after they were announced on Monday morning.

What Happened: Musk’s X has now revealed data, which is not entirely surprising. The Golden Globes nomination gained nearly 200 million impressions on X.

Warner Bros. Discovery-distributed WBD “Barbie,” which was nominated for 10 Golden Globes, and HBO’s “The Last of Us,” which has been nominated for the best television series (drama), were the most talked about film and TV show on the platform.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino, who has previously highlighted the blockbuster reception of both “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” on X, responded to the latest data, stating, “Barbenheimer’s not done yet!”

The 81st Annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony will be held on Jan. 7, 2024. It is viewed in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide, as it is one of the few awards that honor recipients for both motion pictures and television. The program can be viewed on CBS and Paramount+.

Why It’s Important: Released in theaters in mid-July, Margot Robbie-starred “Barbie” broke box office records. This adaptation of the popular toy franchise is the highest-grossing movie of 2023.

Similarly, during the first quarter earnings call this year, WBD said that “The Last of Us,” which stars Game of Thrones fame Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal, is the most-watched show in the history of HBO Max in both LATAM and Europe.
