Late-night comedian, Jimmy Kimmel, took a swipe at former President Donald Trump‘s recent victory in the Iowa caucuses.
What Happened: Kimmel on Tuesday sarcastically lauded Trump as a “gracious winner” after his sweeping victory in the Iowa caucus earlier this week.
Trump viewed the event as a chance to secure “the ultimate victory over all of the liars, cheaters, thugs, perverts, frauds, crooks, freaks, creeps, and other quite nice people”.
Kimmel humorously likened Trump’s statement to a self-penned LinkedIn profile, spotlighting the absence of self-awareness. “It's like he's reading his own LinkedIn resume," Kimmel quipped.
"I mean, seriously: No self-awareness whatsoever."
Kimmel also humorously paused the video at each word during his Tuesday night monologue to confirm Trump’s statements.
Why It Matters: This isn’t the first time Kimmel took aim at Trump. Last month, the comedian humorously debunked the former president’s “most nonsensical” election claims.
Trump had controversially suggested that “If you had a real election and Jesus came down and God came down and said, ‘I’m gonna be the scorekeeper here,’ I think we’d win there, I think we’d win in Illinois and I think we’d win in New York.”
"First of all, if Jesus comes down you're going straight to hell. No White House. No jail. Jesus is like, ‘You're out,’" Kimmel quipped.
Comedian Kimmel is known for his regular jabs at the Republican lawmakers. In November, he slammed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene‘s (R-Ga.) plea for an investigation of the House select committee that scrutinized the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, calling it her "dumbest" new idea.
Trump secured a decisive win in the first 2024 Republican presidential contest in Iowa on Monday, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, respectively. According to Real Clear Politics, at the national level, Trump held 61.4% support among GOP voters, While Haley trailed with 12% support and DeSantis with 10.7%.
