Amazon.com Inc AMZN confirmed it is publishing the next Tomb Raider video game. It is also developing a live-action TV show with Waller-Bridge set to write.

According to Kotaku, the company confirmed the news during Amazon's Upfront event in New York City on May 14.

Amazon ordered a full season of the show.

Amazon and MGM Studios head Jen Salke described it as an "epic" series with global scope.

Rumors swirled in January 2023 about Waller-Bridge being involved in a Tomb Raider series.

Waller-Bridge, who last starred in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” expressed her excitement: "If I could tell my teenage self this was happening, I think she'd explode."

“Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators,” she added. “Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can't wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”

A release date and casting details remain unknown. Amazon's project is part of a broader effort to create a connected Tomb Raider universe. Netflix Inc NFLX is also developing an animated series set for release later this year.

Following the successes of “Fallout” on Amazon, The “Super Mario. Bros” animated movie from Nintendo and HBO’s “The Last of Us”, it’s clear that video game adaptations are a growing trend.

Tomb Raider originated as an action-adventure video game series from UK-based video game developer Core Design in 2001. Previous adaptations include comics, novels and live-action films starring Angelina Jolie.
