Meta Quest Browser To Stream Netflix In High Quality With Theater-Like Experience

Meta Platforms Inc META is enhancing the streaming experience on its Quest VR headsets.

The Menlo Park, California-based company is adding web browser support for Netflix Inc NFLX, enabling high-quality streaming.

This update allows users to watch Netflix through the Quest's Browser app, with options to view content on a flat 2D screen or a curved screen for a theater-like experience, Meta announced in a blog post.

Previously, watching Netflix on the Quest was suboptimal due to the official Netflix app’s limitation of 480p resolution and lack of updates since its 2019 launch.

The Browser app also previously blocked Netflix, pushing users to sideload Netflix’s Android app or use the Virtual Desktop mode to access the streaming service.

With the upcoming update to the Browser app, these workarounds will no longer be necessary. This move mirrors the approach of the Apple Vision Pro, which also lacks a dedicated Netflix app and requires users to watch through the Safari browser.

Additionally, Meta is introducing background audio support, allowing users to continue listening to music even after minimizing the app.

Other updates include improvements to pass through on the Quest 3, support for external microphones, and the addition of new wrist buttons.
