Despite the console's specific details being tightly guarded, individuals interviewed by VGC said that the upcoming next-gen console would have a portable mode option, similar to the Nintendo Switch.
Moreover, the console might initially launch with an LCD screen instead of a more premium OLED display. This move aims to lower production costs, particularly due to the need for higher storage capacity to accommodate games with enhanced graphics.
Similar to its predecessor, the new Nintendo console will continue to support physical games through a cartridge slot, as per the sources' information.
Nintendo's next-gen console's support for backwards compatibility with Switch games remains uncertain. The company aims to convert its massive user base (100M+) to the new system, but concerns from third-party publishers linger about the potential impact on next-gen title sales.
The release window reported by VGC aligns with Nintendo's May earnings call, during which the company confirmed that no major hardware refreshes were planned before the end of its 2023 fiscal year, which concludes in April 2024.
