According to IGN, the game introduces the new Exhaust Engine, powered by Frostbite, which aims to "let players experience concentrated moments of intensity that hockey is known for."
It includes the Sustained Pressure System, rewarding aggressive offensive play by temporarily weakening opponents and creating opportunities for big plays.
Another new feature is the Goalie Fatigue System, which affects goalies as they face more shots, decreasing their ability to protect the goal. The game features 75 new animations to reflect this change.
NHL 24 also introduces a Physics-Based Contact system for more realistic body checks, enabling players to create turnovers, shatter glass, and impact opponents.
It's worth noting NHL 24 features enhanced cross-play functionality, enabling players to engage in numerous modes alongside their friends, whether on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S or on PS4 and Xbox One. This includes popular modes like Hockey Ultimate Team and World of Chel.
