Activision Blizzard Inc's ATVI Diablo 4 is planning to introduce annual expansions, as indicated by comments from its chief developer, Rod Fergusson.
"When you look at the launch of the game and this first season, we see that as building a foundation on which we can build for the future,” Fergusson said in an interview with Dexerto.

"So, as we look at our quarterly seasons, and we look at our annual expansions, those are the things that we’re really focused on for our live service," he added.
Despite some initial issues with Season 1, Diablo 4 had a successful launch in June. Season 2, titled Season of Blood, is set to launch on Oct. 17 and will include new content.
Blizzard plans to use seasons for side quests, while expansions will drive the main storyline forward. Players have been speculating about the game's future story developments, including the return of iconic villains.
According to IGN, it's possible that a Diablo 4 expansion may be revealed at BlizzCon in November 2023.
