Xbox's Tokyo Game Show 2023 Recap: From Horror To RPGs - All You Need To Know

During the Xbox Digital Broadcast at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Microsoft Corporation MSFT made several announcements focusing on Japan and Japanese-inspired games.

"Japan will always have a special place in my heart for pioneering innovative ways to play, from the Game Boy, to PSP, to the Switch," Xbox's head Phil Spencer said.

This is the full list of announcements, as reported by IGN:

  • Hotel Barcelona: Microsoft unveiled "Hotel Barcelona," a horror-action game developed in collaboration with Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro and Goichi "Suda51" Suda, set to release in 2024 on Xbox Series X and S.
  • Octopath Traveler 2: An Xbox version of the RPG "Octopath Traveler 2" was announced for early 2024, expanding on Square Enix's partnership with Microsoft to bring more Japanese games to the platform.
  • Forza Motorsport: Microsoft showcased "Forza Motorsport" and its Hakone course, set for release on Oct. 10 for Xbox Series X and S, along with inclusion in Game Pass.
  • Fallout 76: Bethesda's "Fallout 76" introduced an Atlantic City update, split into two releases, with the first part arriving on Dec. 5, including new locations, factions, missions, and rewards.
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: ZeniMax Online Studios announced the Japanese release of "The Elder Scrolls Online" on Nov. 15, 2023, with the Necrom expansion coming to consoles in February.
  • Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy: This classic series is coming to Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass on Sept. 26, with "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy" arriving on Jan. 25, 2024.
  • Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi: Microsoft introduced "Altheia: The Wrath of Aferi," a fantasy adventure with Japanese influences, coming soon to Xbox and PC.
  • Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes: A spiritual successor to Suikoden, this game is set to launch into Game Pass on April 24, 2024.
  • Capcom's Exoprimal: The co-op dinosaur-killing game will receive Season 2 on Oct. 18, featuring new content and a Street Fighter 6 crossover.
  • Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure of Dai: An action RPG based on the popular anime and manga, releasing on Sept. 28 for Xbox Series X and S, and PC.
  • Like a Dragon Gaiden: This title is confirmed for Xbox Game Pass on Nov. 9, with "Like a Dragon: Ishin!" coming to Game Pass later in 2023.
  • Mineko Night Market: The cute adventure game will be available on Game Pass and PC Game Pass on Oct. 26.
  • My Lovely Empress: The third installment of the "My Lovely" series is expected in 2024 on Xbox consoles and Windows PC.
  • Palworld: Described as "Pokemon with guns," this monster-collecting RPG is set to arrive on Xbox and Windows PC in 2024.
  • Party Animals: The co-op game "Party Animals" features Ori and Naru from the Ori series as playable characters.
  • Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Tactica: These Persona games received new trailers and are set to launch in early 2024 and Nov. 17, 2023, respectively, across various platforms, including Game Pass.
  • PUBG: Battlegrounds: A new trailer showcased changes coming to the Erangel map in October, promising more dynamic gameplay.
  • Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty DLC: The "Conqueror of Jiangdong" expansion for "Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty" is set to release on Sept. 27, featuring new weapons, enemies, bosses, and a crossover with "Lies of P."
