'Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic' Remake Trailer Vanishes – Sony Explains The Mystery

Zinger Key Points
  • Fans are worried about the fate of the "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" remake as trailers and promotional material disappeared.
  • Sony cited music licensing issues, not cancellation.

Fans of the anticipated "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" (KOTOR) remake are growing increasingly concerned about the fate of the project.

Their concern was sparked by the sudden removal of trailers and promotional materials related to the game from the internet.

Notably, the 2021 PlayStation Showcase trailer for the KOTOR remake was set to private, and even official social media posts by Sony regarding the game were pulled down.

However, Sony Group Corp. SONY has responded, attributing the removal to music licensing issues, and not the cancellation of the game.

"As part of normal business, we delist assets with licensed music when the licenses expire," a Sony spokesperson told IGN.

Last year, a demo of the game, developed by Texas-based studio Aspyr, failed to impress both Walt Disney Company's DIS Lucasfilm and Sony, leading to an indefinite pause in development. This pause also resulted in the departure of key project members, including art director, Brad Prince, and design director, Jason Minor.

As a consequence, the project was moved from Aspyr to Saber Interactive, both of which are under the parent company Embracer Group AB THQQF. It's worth noting that Embracer is undergoing a challenging restructuring phase, involving studio closures, game cancellations, and staff layoffs.

Originally set for a PC and PlayStation 5 release, the remake's timeline remains uncertain, with reports suggesting a release date as late as 2025.
