Nintendo To Discontinue 3DS, Wii U Online Support In April 2024

Nintendo ADR NTDOY announced it will cease online support for 3DS and Wii U consoles in April 2024, leaving only the Pokémon storage app, Pokémon Bank, accessible online.

This will affect online co-op, rankings and data distribution for these consoles, the company announced in a blog post.

Additionally, the Nintendo Badge Arcade, which allowed customization of the 3DS home menu, will no longer be available.

Nintendo did not provided a specific date for the termination but mentioned the possibility of an earlier shutdown if "an event occurs that would make it difficult to continue online services."

In related news, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed the company planned to support the Nintendo Switch console with new games until at least the end of the 2025 financial year, which ends in March 2025.

Furukawa expressed the company's commitment to sustaining the success of current titles like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and the Super Mario Bros. Movie.
