Halloween Angry Pumpkins: 12 Hours, GPT-4, Dall-E 3 And Midjourney Is All It Takes To Create An Angry Birds Clone

An enterprising developer has created an Angry Birds clone using GPT-4, Dall-E 3, and Midjourney. He calls it Angry Pumpkins and says it took him just 12 hours to clone one of the most popular mobile games.

What Happened: Underlining just how far AI has come in 2023 after the success of Microsoft Corp.-backed MSFT OpenAI's ChatGPT, a developer has created a clone of the popular mobile game Angry Birds.

The developer, Javi Lopez, used GPT-4, Dall-E 3, and Midjourney to create the Halloween-themed Angry Pumpkins.

Lopez explains that it took him just 12 hours to complete this. He used Dall-E 3 and Midjourney to create the visuals and backgrounds, while GPT-4 was tasked with programming and writing the code.

The developer says GPT-4 wrote the entire code but needed assistance with some finer details like different effects, objects, and more.

"Although the game is just 600 lines of which I haven’t written ANY, this was the most challenging part," Lopez said.

The coding process is also similar to how a human programmer would approach it – it is iterative and requires a step-by-step explanation of what the game should be doing right from scratch.

"The trick is to request things from GPT-4 iteratively. Actually, very similar to how a person would program it," he explained.

The game is live and can be played on the web here. Note that it does not work on mobile just yet.

Why It Matters: The AI revolution is here to stay, and with time, large-language models are only going to get better as developers optimize them. AI models are also constantly learning and evolving based on real-world use cases, so the fine-tuning is persistent.

With tech leaders like Elon Musk saying that AI will one day take away all the jobs from humans, it is perhaps a good idea to make AI a part of the daily workflow instead of completely ignoring it.
