Musk Puts Feud With Bezos Aside To Celebrate Amazon Prime's 'Fallout' Experience At SXSW

Zinger Key Points
  • Elon Musk loves video games and often shows his support with posts on social media.
  • An appearance at SXSW to support a video game series adaptation is something to watch as the premiere nears.

Billionaire Elon Musk is a lover of video games and has said in past interviews that Deus Ex, Fallout and Bioshock are among his favorites.

It shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Musk was on hand to support a "Fallout" experience. The support could help out two Musk rivals: Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates.

What Happened: Musk has longstanding rivalries with both Bezos and Gates, who are the founders of Amazon.com Inc AMZN and Microsoft Corporation MSFT respectively.

On Thursday, Musk made a surprise appearance at the “Fallout” experience event at SXSW, also known as South by Southwest. The festival was held in Texas, which is home to Musk and several of his companies.

The “Fallout” event comes from Prime Video, a unit of Amazon.com Inc, which is adapting the popular video game into a series that premieres on April 11. The video game is part of Bethesda, which is owned by Microsoft's gaming division.

As reported by Deadline, Musk's unannounced attendance wasn't a huge surprise given his longtime friendship with Jonathan Nolan, who is serving as the executive producer on the series adaptation.

Musk was seen playing with the interactive experiences and enjoying the "Fallout" experience, which also later included new trailer premieres and the first 15 minutes of the first episode being shown at the event.

Nolan previously interviewed Musk at the SXSW event in 2018 when they discussed topics like Mars exploration and underground transportation.

The producer helped create television series "Westworld" and "Person of Interest" and has also collaborated with brother Christopher Nolan on movies that include "The Dark Knight," "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Interstellar."

Why It's Important: Video game adaptations have become common among movie studios and streaming platforms, and the "Fallout" series is among the latest.

Musk is a lover of video games and has often tweeted about which games he's playing and sometimes finds time to stream his playing of Diablo IV.

Musk’s appearance at the event might hint at a future tweet where he could express his enjoyment of the show or offer support to his friend, should he choose to do so.

Interestingly enough, it was a video game adaptation that brought Musk and Bezos together previously. The two, who have a longstanding rivalry related to their space companies, shared support for the adaptation of "The Last of Us" by HBO.

If "Fallout" is successful, it could help boost subscriber figures for Amazon Prime Video. The show's success could also bring new fans to the video game franchise or help with any additional video games in the series.

Musk's support for the show could help boost the attention given his massive reach on social media. Although Bezos and Gates have stepped down as CEOs of Amazon and Microsoft, they still maintain substantial shares in their respective companies.

Keep in mind that Musk previously shared his criticism of another Amazon series, which may have led to fans not giving it a chance.
