Sony Group Corp.‘s SONY Naughty Dog, the developer known for The Last of Us and Uncharted franchises, is currently working on “multiple single-player projects,” according to studio head Neil Druckmann.

“I promise you, we will not be The Last of Us studio forever,” Druckmann stated, referring to the franchise that started in 2013 and had a sequel in 2020.

Despite not releasing a new game since The Last of Us: Part 2, aside from remasters and collections, Druckmann assured that the studio’s future projects will continue to focus on strong narratives and character-driven experiences.

Naughty Dog’s history includes the Uncharted series, which concluded with Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End in 2016 and its follow-up, The Lost Legacy, in 2017.

Naughty Dog’s Evolution

While the next major title from the studio has been decided as of March 2023, its details remain under wraps. Druckmann’s remarks suggest the upcoming projects may not include a new installment of The Last of Us, although the franchise could still be part of the multiple projects in development.

Druckmann clarified that these projects are not all in full development; some might still be in the early conceptual stages and subject to change or cancellation.

Druckmann stressed that Naughty Dog’s new projects will stay true to the studio’s core values. “We create experiences that are steeped in story and character, especially relationships,” he explained.

“The stories have some sort of philosophical core that everything is going to revolve around and feed into,” Druckmann added.
