Epic Games has announced that the Epic Games Store and Fortnite will be available on iOS in Japan by late 2025.
This development follows the passage of a new law in Japan, akin to the European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which mandates that third-party app stores must be allowed on Apple Inc‘s AAPL App Store.
The law, proposed by a government panel in June, is set to come into effect next year, according to GamesIndustry.biz.

The legislation requires Apple and Alphabet Inc‘s GOOGL Google to permit users to download third-party app stores on their platforms and use alternative payment systems.
Meanwhile, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney celebrated this change on social media, stating: “Fortnite will now return to iOS in Japan and the UK next year, and the EU this year. This is a new free world, from the point of view of app developers and users.”
The European Union will be the first region to experience the Epic Games Store and Fortnite on iOS devices, with the launch slated for this year and operations managed by Epic Games Sweden.
