Insomniac Games has announced that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will not receive any additional story content, effectively ending fan hopes for downloadable content (DLC).
This news arrived alongside Sony Group Corp's SONY confirmation that a PC version of the game will be released in January 2025, making it one of the fastest transitions from a PS5 exclusive to PC.

Since its launch in September 2023, Spider-Man 2 has seen several updates, including New Game+, mission replay options, and new suits. However, many fans anticipated that the game would receive story DLC, especially given its conclusion, which introduced narrative threads, including a potential storyline involving Carnage.
Hopes For DLC
Fans were not only hopeful for DLC but expected it, especially after indications from a significant data breach at Insomniac in December 2023 hinted at planned content. An accidental leak of Spider-Man 2‘s development game menu earlier this year suggested a potential DLC arc, referred to as the “Beetle Villain Arc.”
This expectation was further complicated by Sony’s recent layoffs affecting about 900 employees, or 8% of its global PlayStation workforce. Insomniac was among the studios impacted, which led to the cancellation of some in-development games.
Future Projects
Despite the announcement regarding Spider-Man 2, Insomniac is reportedly working on several upcoming projects, including Marvel’s Venom expected in 2025 and Marvel’s Wolverine slated for 2026. The studio has also planned for Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 in 2028 and other titles, such as a new Ratchet & Clank game in 2029 and Marvel’s X-Men in 2030.
The cancellation of the anticipated DLC raises questions about the timeline and scope of these projects. Some fans hope that Insomniac might produce a spinoff similar to the successful Miles Morales standalone title, with Venom potentially at the center.
