Zinger Key Points
- GTA 6 is already influencing release strategies, with publishers delaying their games to avoid competing with Rockstar's 2025 hit.
- Take-Two’s 2026 lineup includes GTA 6, Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country.
Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 is already influencing the video game industry, even without an official release date.
While Take-Two Interactive Software Inc‘s TTWO game is expected to arrive in fall 2025, publishers are reportedly holding back their own announcements to avoid competing with what is anticipated to be one of the biggest releases in gaming history.

“Anticipation is so high that some competing game publishers are waiting as long as possible to commit to their release dates for the fall, according to people familiar with their deliberations who asked not to be identified,” Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported.
“The publishers want to see whether GTA 6 will make its deadline or slip into 2026, these people say, and they're determined to keep their own games far, far away,” he added.
The series has a long history of dominating sales charts and the next installment is widely expected to set new records. The last game in the franchise, Grand Theft Auto V, remains a bestseller more than a decade after its release, with over 185 million copies sold worldwide.
The cautious approach from competitors is not without reason. If GTA 6 meets expectations, it could monopolize attention across the gaming community, leaving little room for other titles to succeed in the same timeframe.
Take-Two's Packed Lineup For Fiscal Year 2026
Since the late 2023 teaser trailer announcement, the parent company's shares have risen over 30%. The trailer, with over 200 million YouTube views, reveals a Miami-inspired setting for GTA 6.
The game will feature two playable characters modeled after Bonnie and Clyde and, according to Bloomberg, Rockstar is encouraging writers to avoid crude jokes targeting transgender individuals and other minorities.
Take-Two’s fiscal year 2026 lineup, which runs through March 2026, also includes Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country.
CEO Strauss Zelnick noted these launches aren’t expected to overlap. “I think it’s safe to say that we wouldn’t, and no one would, stack up huge releases unnecessarily.”
In addition to these titles, other projects in development include Sid Meier's Civilization 7, WWE 2K25 and Judas, promising a packed and carefully planned release schedule.
