Technology giant and Google parent company Alphabet Inc GOOGGOOGL is teaming up with Salcit Technologies on a new bioacoustics model that uses the power of sound and artificial intelligence to help detect illness.
What Happened: According to Bloomberg, Google trained the AI model with hundreds of millions of audio samples with examples of coughs, breathing and sneezes.
Called HeAR (Health Acoustic Representations), the AI model is already being used to help detect tuberculosis through the power of sound.
Google is also working on using the technology for early breast cancer detection in Taiwan using bioacoustics and a more affordable option to mammograms.

Why It's Important: While the bioacoustics venture is in its early stages, it could be one of many innovative technologies strengthened by AI.
The partnership could also be a new revenue stream for Google. The bioacoustics venture could also serve as a transformative technology in areas of the world that can't easily afford or access X-ray machines and diagnostic equipment.
The ability to put Google's technology into a smartphone could make it more accessible, too.
Google's bioacoustics ventures are not commercially available yet, but offer a glimpse into some of the positives that AI growth could provide in the world of healthcare.
GOOG Price Action: Alphabet shares trade at $164.37 versus a 52-week trading range of $121.46 to $193.31.
