Billionaire Warren Buffett held a very cozy relationship with President Barack Obama and campaigned for Hillary Clinton during the U.S. presidential election. Now, he's showing hints of crossing political aisles as he said he's "overwhelmingly" supportive of President-elect Donald Trump's choices for cabinet positions.
According to a Bloomberg report, Buffett's statements were made Thursday in New York at the premiere of a documentary about his life called "Becoming Warren Buffett."
His comments are consistent with what he said during the campaign when he attacked Republicans and Trump, but did so with grace as he believes America can thrive no matter who is running the country.
"For 240 years it's been a terrible mistake to bet against America, and now is no time to start," he said when the election race was at its peak.
On Thursday, he reiterated his view that America will succeed.
"I feel that way no matter who is president," Buffett said. "The CEO -- which I am -- should have the ability to pick people that help you run a place."
The 86-year-old billionaire also said that Trump's low approval ratings don't matter too much.
"It's what you go out with that counts -- 20, 50 years later what people feel you've achieved."
Buffett's hope for America is that the millions of people who feel that they have been left behind over the years can now participate in the economy and achieve "incredible prosperity."
"If they work 40 hours a week, they should have a decent life," Buffett concluded. "That's the most important thing in terms of the economy."
