A new poll finds that a Trump-DeSantis ticket could significantly boost former President Donald Trump's chances of winning the 2024 election.
In a matchup against President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, 51% of likely U.S. voters would vote for Trump and Ron DeSantis, compared to 43% for Biden-Harris, according to a survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports and Political Media, Inc.
This eight-point advantage is outside the margin of error, and when considering Trump against Biden without running mates, Trump leads by only six points (47% to 41%).
The addition of DeSantis as a running mate increases Trump's support among Republicans by four points and among unaffiliated voters by five points. The survey also explored two other potential 2024 vice-presidential pairings for Trump – Kari Lake and Marjorie Taylor Greene – with Trump-Lake leading Biden-Harris by five points (47% to 42%), while Biden-Harris winning over Trump-Greene by four points (44% to 40%).
The poll found that 59% of voters view Trump favorably, while 46% have a favorable opinion of Biden. DeSantis is viewed favorably by 60% of voters, with his favorability being 13 points higher than Lake or Greene.
The Trump-DeSantis duo was more trusted than Biden-Harris to handle a range of issues, including illegal immigration, government corruption, the economy, and national security. The results suggest that a united Trump-DeSantis ticket could be a strong contender in the 2024 election.
The poll, which surveyed 1,050 likely U.S. voters, was carried out between April 27 and May 2, 2023, the margin of sampling error for this survey is +/- 3 percentage points.
