Hunter Biden Turns Republican House Grilling Into An Opportunity To Point Fingers At Trump's Son-In-Law Jared Kushner

In a recent closed-door deposition on Capitol Hill, Hunter Biden, the focal point of the GOP’s impeachment investigation into President Joe Biden, defended his business dealings and drew attention to the foreign business ventures of Jared Kushner.

What Happened: Hunter Biden was questioned for nearly seven hours by Republicans on Capitol Hill on Wednesday. The GOP has been investigating allegations of corruption tied to the Biden family’s overseas business ventures, reported The Hill.

Hunter Biden maintained that his father had no involvement in his business pursuits. He also pointed out the foreign business ventures of Jared Kushner, former President Trump’s son-in-law, who secured a significant investment deal from Saudi Arabia shortly after leaving the White House.

Rep. Dan Goldman (D-N.Y.) quoted Hunter Biden saying, “One of his most powerful lines was when he made it very clear that none of the business dealings that he ever had were with any government entity. And he pointed out: unlike Jared Kushner, who received $2 billion from the Saudi Arabian government as soon as he left office, when he was the point person on Middle Eastern policy.”

Despite the lengthy deposition, Republicans plan to bring Hunter Biden back for a public hearing. Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.), chair of the House Oversight Committee, intends to “clear up some discrepancies” between statements made by the president’s son and previous witnesses.

Why It Matters: Kushner’s controversial $2 billion Saudi deal has been a topic of discussion, with Benzinga reporting that the deal would remain intact even if Trump were reelected.

Kushner’s actions have faced scrutiny, with allegations of wrongdoing and calls for accountability from figures such as Trump’s niece, Mary Trump. Furthermore, Kushner has been accused of using his position to influence media coverage.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden has faced his own controversies, with a smear campaign reportedly initiated by an ex-KGB agent in 2019. The ongoing investigations into both figures continue to fuel political tensions.
