Elon Musk‘s rocket manufacturing company SpaceX completed three Falcon 9 missions in under 24 hours on Tuesday as it gears up to meet its own launch targets for the year.
What Happened: On Monday, at 7:52 p.m. ET, SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launched the RRT-1 mission from Florida.
On Tuesday, at 5:19 a.m. PT, the company’s rocket launched the NROL-149 mission from California.
At 5:26 p.m. ET on the same day, the company also launched the SES O3b mPOWER mission from Florida, successfully launching three missions in 24 hours.
SpaceX launched its 125th mission for the year on Dec. 13. With the three recent launches, the total number of launches undertaken by SpaceX this year has risen to 128.
Why It Matters: SpaceX was initially looking to complete 144 launches this year or an average of 12 times per month.
However, SpaceX VP of Launch Kiko Dontchev said in November that the company will not make its goal of 144 launches this year but is still targeting 30 more launches, or one launch every two days, for the rest of the year.
With less than fifteen days now remaining for the year, one can assume SpaceX to complete 6 more launches as per Dontchev’s estimate, successfully crossing the 130 launches benchmark.
For the entirety of 2023, SpaceX only completed 96 launches, not including two test flights of the company’s Starship launch vehicle.
