Soccer superstar Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami of the Major League Soccer league in a move that came as a surprise to many.
In his first two games playing for Miami, Messi has scored three goals and has one assist. Here’s a look at how bettors have done backing the Argentine superstar.
What Happened: Messi made his debut for Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup with Inter Miami facing off against Cruz Azul on July 21.
In the game, Messi came on as a substitute and scored the game winning goal for Inter Miami, who won 2-1.
Messi drew his first start for Inter Miami on July 25 with Inter Miami defeating Atlanta United 4-0. In the game, Messi had two goals and an assist.
Bettors who wagered on Messi to score an anytime goal would have cashed bets in both games. Bettors who took their winnings from the first game and rolled them into the second Messi match would have done even better.
With odds of -125 to score a goal against Cruz Azul, a $100 bet would have paid out $180, netting a profit of $80 to a bettor.
The $180 bet on Messi to score a goal against Atlanta United would have turned the $180 into $330 for a gain of $150, based on odds of -120.
A bettor who wagered $100 on Messi to score a goal in both games would now have $330 and be up 230%. Not a bad return for backing a superstar.

What’s Next: Messi’s third game is Wednesday, with Inter Miami facing off against Orlando City in the Round of 32 for the Leagues Cup.
Inter Miami is favored to win at odds of -155 at DraftKings Inc DKNG. Orlando City is the underdog at odds of +360 and the draw is listed at +310.
Messi has odds of a goal or an assist at -370. Bettors can also parlay a Messi goal with Inter Miami winning at odds of +110.
Over at BetMGM, odds on Messi to score a goal or multiple goals are offered. Messi getting an anytime goal is offered at odds of -135. Messi to score two goals or more is +400 and Messi to score three goals or more is listed at +1,400.
Messi can’t score in every game, but will likely be a favorite in each game until he stops scoring in his Inter Miami matches.
To watch the game, you’ll need to have signed up for MLS Season Pass, an offering from AppleTV. Technology giant Apple Inc AAPL landed the exclusive rights to MLS games in a 10-year deal valued at a reported $2.5 billion. The contract began with the 2023 season and came at the perfect time for Apple.
Apple participated in the deal that led to Messi's transfer to the MLS. The tech giant is reportedly offering the soccer superstar a portion of the revenue from all new MLS Season Pass subscriptions sold.
MLS Season Pass comes with a cost of $14.99 per month, or $12.99 per month for existing AppleTV+ subscribers. There are also full season packages available.
