FanDuel And The Carvana Professional Pickleball Association Dive Into Sports Betting In 10 States

In a move that cements pickleball’s status as the biggest sports craze, online sportsbook FanDuel Group recently announced that pickleball betting is legal in 10 states. 

The thunking sound heard from pickleball courts around the U.S. might drive some people crazy, but it’s the sound of expansion and popularity. With the sport’s explosive growth comes mainstream exposure, including televised matches and the creation of the Carvana Professional Pickleball Association (PPA) Tour. Legal sports betting should attract both casual and professional bettors who are always eager to jump into a new sport.

Pickleball has experienced remarkable growth in the United States, with millions of new players, thousands of dedicated courts and many clubs sprouting up across the nation. Its appeal spans generations, attracting both young athletes and seniors looking for a fun, low-impact activity. The sport’s inclusivity and ease of learning make it accessible to a wide range of demographics.

The PPA Tour Spearheads Betting Opportunities

With the launch of sports betting for official tour events, the tour touted itself as “the pioneer pickleball organization to enter the sports-betting arena.” The PPA Tour and FanDuel stated wagering on PPA Tour events is available to fans in 10 legalized betting states and one Canadian province, starting with FanDuel Sportsbook.

“We are excited to be paving the way in the pickleball sports betting space, and we couldn’t be prouder to lead the sport’s leap into such an innovative industry,” PPA Tour Founder and CEO Connor Pardoe said in an Aug. 24 press release. “The immense growth of pickleball over the past few years has driven widespread interest in all aspects of the game, including playing as amateurs and watching the professionals in person at events and from home. Our venture into sports betting will bring a whole new level of engagement from current and new fans, and we continue to be excited for what the future holds for our sport.”

Pickleball betting is now possible via FanDuel in Connecticut, Illinois, Wyoming, Michigan, Tennessee, Maryland, Colorado, Washington and Ontario, Canada. Enthusiasts can place bets on various standard markets typically seen in other sports, such as moneylines and over/under totals. They can also bet on the total points and correct match score. Expect to see expanded bet types and options as pickleball wagering grows in popularity.

The tour expressed its optimism about all major U.S. online sportsbooks offering pickleball betting in the future, pending approval in states that permit sports betting. Each state maintains its distinct regulations governing sports betting that determine whether bettors can wager online through a site like FanDuel or in a brick-and-mortar environment. To enhance viewership and engagement, the tour collaborates with Genius Sports, an official data, technology and broadcast partner, which will provide essential data and live video feeds to participating sportsbooks.

To allay any concerns about impropriety and the potential for game fixing, the PPA Tour has implemented the PPA Tour Sports Betting and Integrity Policy, which applies to all tour professionals. It also mandates that all PPA Tour personnel, officials and players undergo training on betting integrity.
