Zinger Key Points
  • The Miami Dolphins are one of a few NFL teams to start the season 3-0.
  • The team has moved up the betting odds for Super Bowl LVIII.

Heading into the 2023 NFL season, the Miami Dolphins were one of the favorites to win Super Bowl LVIII with odds of +2,500.

After three games of the 2023 NFL season, the Dolphins now find themselves an even bigger favorite that’s attracting some big bets.

What Happened: While many NFL fans and casual fans were talking about Taylor Swift attending the Kansas City Chiefs game, the Miami Dolphins had a love story of their own with the scoreboard.

The Dolphins beat the Denver Broncos 70-20 with the most points scored in franchise history and tied for third-most ever in an NFL game. The point total was also the highest total by a team since 1966, according to sports reporter Darren Rovell.

After three games, the Dolphins are 3-0 with wins of 36-34 over the Los Angeles Chargers, 24-17 over the New England Patriots and the win over the Broncos.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has put up strong numbers and is ranked second in the league in passing yards of 1,024 and second in passing touchdowns, 8. The Dolphins quarterback ranks first in adjusted quarterback rating at 82.9 and passer rating at 121.9.

The Dolphins are now listed as the fourth favorite to win the Super Bowl with odds of +900, trailing only the San Francisco 49ers at +600, Kansas City Chiefs at +650 and Philadelphia Eagles at +700.

Ahead of the 2023 NFL season, the AFC East division was seen as a highly contested race with the Buffalo Bills favored at +120 and the New York Jets listed second at +270.

The Jets lost star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to injury and are now 1-2 and the Bills are 2-1. The updated odds for the AFC East division have the Dolphins favored at -160 and the Bills ranking second at +165.

The Dolphins travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills on Sunday with the Bills currently listed as three-point favorites in the contest.

Tagovailoa is currently listed as the betting favorite to win the NFL MVP for the 2023 season at odds of +380, ranking ahead of last year’s winner Patrick Mahomes at +550. Before the season began, Tagovailoa was listed with odds of around +2000 at sportsbooks.

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill is the new favorite to win the Offensive Player of the Year at odds of +450.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is the new favorite to win the Coach of the Year award at odds of +400.

The success of the Dolphins has attracted several bets during the NFL season, including several bets placed after the team had won two games and before their 70-point game.

At BetMGM, a joint venture between MGM Resorts International MGM and Entain, a bettor placed a $27,000 wager on the Dolphins winning Super Bowl LVIII at odds of +2000. The bet will win $540,000 if the Dolphins win the Super Bowl.

A bettor also placed large wagers at BetMGM three days before the 70-point game by the Dolphins. The bettor wagered $100,000 on the Dolphins to win the Super Bowl at odds of +1300 with a potential profit of $1.3 million.

The same bettor placed a $60,000 wager on Tagovailoa winning the NFL MVP at odds of +500 for a potential $300,000 profit.

Until a team can slow down the high-powered offense of the Dolphins led by Tagovailoa, the team could see more bets pour in on their Super Bowl odds and the quarterback’s MVP odds.
